Our Endorsement Process
At Durham Black PAC, our endorsement process is guided by a commitment to accountability, transparency, and the long-term interests of our community. We recognize that incumbents come to this process with a clear record of leadership that must be evaluated. Their votes and decisions on city council are the most reliable measure of where they stand, how they lead, and whether they align with the priorities of Black Durham.
Durham Black PAC chose not to issue questionnaires or conduct interviews for this year's municipal elections. While it is easy during campaign season for candidates to fill out questionnaires or issue statements that tell organizations what they want to hear, words alone are not enough. Promises on paper must be measured against actions in office. For incumbents, their voting record provides the strongest evidence of their values and leadership. For challengers, we look closely at their platforms, track record of community engagement, advocacy, and demonstrated commitment to our people.
Our endorsements are not made lightly—they reflect an alignment with our values and a rigorous process that centers accountability to the community above campaign rhetoric.
The Durham Black PAC proudly endorses Anjanee Bell for Mayor of Durham. Our mission is to educate, engage, and empower the Black community — and we believe Anjanee is the leader who will fight alongside us to make Durham a city where all of us can thrive.
Anjanee Bell’s platform is rooted in protecting what makes Durham strong: our people, our neighborhoods, and our future. She is committed to defending historically Black neighborhoods like Hayti, Walltown, and beyond from displacement and gentrification, ensuring that our history and culture are honored and preserved. She will champion Black-owned businesses, creating pathways for economic growth and wealth-building right here in our community. And she stands firmly for environmental justice, pushing back against overdevelopment that threatens our health, green spaces, and quality of life.
Anjanee believes in community-led safety and wellness, supporting solutions that build trust, reduce harm, and invest in mental health and preventive resources — because real safety comes from strong, healthy communities.
We know that Anjanee Bell will lead with vision, courage, and accountability — centering the voices of Black Durham residents in every decision. With her leadership, we can build a city that prioritizes affordable housing, invests in our youth, protects working families, and uplifts every corner of our community.

The Durham Black PAC proudly endorses Councilwoman DeDreana Freeman for reelection to the Durham City Council. For the past eight years, Councilwoman Freeman has been a fierce advocate for Durham’s communities, consistently standing up for justice, accountability, and equity — values that reflect our mission to educate, engage, and empower the Black community.
Throughout her service, she has led efforts to protect historically Black neighborhoods from displacement and overdevelopment, while pushing for affordable housing that keeps families rooted in Durham. She has been unwavering in her commitment to environmental protection and justice, ensuring that growth in our city is sustainable and does not come at the expense of our health or neighborhoods. And she has been a champion for racial equity, making sure that Black voices are centered in decision-making and that policies reflect fairness and inclusion for all.
Councilwoman Freeman also continues to advance community-led safety and wellness, supporting approaches that strengthen neighborhoods through prevention, mental health resources, and youth opportunities — because true safety is built from the ground up.
